Nancy Adelaide Vieira is a Cape Verdean singer celebrated for her crystalline voice and her ability to bridge traditional sounds with modern, international influences. Born in Guinea-Bissau in 1975, her parents were active in the independence movement. They raised her in Cape Verde before she settled in Lisbon. Her musical journey began unexpectedly at age 14 when she won a local song contest, leading to her debut album, “Nôs Raça,” in 1995.
Often hailed as a successor to Cesária Évora, Vieira excels in the classic genres of morna and coladeira.
Her discography, including acclaimed works like No Amá and Gente, reflects a sophisticated blend of Atlantic rhythms, Brazilian textures, and Portuguese fado. Her 2025/2026 collaboration with Fred Martins, Esperança, recently topped the World Music Charts Europe, solidifying her status as a premier global ambassador for the music of her homeland.
