Michael Kitanda

Michael Kitanda is a Ugandan jazz saxophonist and composer known for mixing smooth jazz with local Ugandan sounds. Born in Mulago, Kampala, he discovered music early, with his passion growing through his school years at Omega Primary.
He’s become a standout in Uganda’s jazz scene, performing at events like the Pearl Rhythm Festival and working with industry heavyweights both at home and abroad. His music is marked by soulful sax melodies, improvisation, and a strong link to his roots.
In December 2024, he released "Christmas in Kampala," a festive album that gives holiday classics a fresh, Ugandan jazz twist. He followed with "Say No More," in May 2025, a laid-back single ahead of his album "Sax Appeal."
Kitanda continues to explore new sounds and support Uganda’s music culture through performance, collaboration, and education.
