Journey
Born Aituaje Aina Vivian Ebele Iruobe on September 1, 1980, in Akure, Nigeria, Waje has emerged as a defining voice in African music, recognized for her powerful vocal abilities that span three octaves. Growing up in Benin City, she first enchanted audiences in church choirs, earning the support of late Archbishop Benson Idahosa, who aided her education. She later pursued social work at the University of Nigeria, where she balanced student life with developing her burgeoning musical career.
Waje's breakthrough came in 2008 after featuring on P-Square's “Do Me,” a track that received airplay across Africa and Europe. Her unique ability to blend genres such as bongoflava, afrobeats, afrohouse, and alte is evident in her debut album, "Words Aren't Just Enough" (2013), and subsequent releases, "Red Velvet" (2018), "Heart Season" (2021), and "Waje 2.0" (2022). Known also for her stage collaborations with international acts like Wyclef Jean and Keri Hilson, Waje continues to resonate with a blend of Afro-pop, R&B, and jazz.
Her influence extends beyond music; she made her acting debut in the 2014 film Tunnel and later starred in She Is (2018). As a coach on The Voice Nigeria, she shares her expertise with emerging artists. Committed to philanthropy, her initiative, Waje Safe House, supports educational and social causes. An impactful artist and mentor, Waje’s career exemplifies resilience and creativity in the face of life’s challenges.
