Omawumi Boma Megbele-Yussuf proves that some voices arrive prepared. Born April 13, 1982, in Delta State, the Itsekiri singer, songwriter, and actress first captured national attention as runner-up on Idols West Africa in 2007. A law graduate of Ambrose Alli University, she briefly practiced law before choosing music as her full-time profession.
Raised in Warri by Chief Dr. Frank and Mrs. Aya Megbele, Omawumi’s artistry reflects discipline, depth, and cultural pride. Her 2008 debut single, "In The Music," set the stage for a career defined by strong vocals and a refined blend of soul, R&B, jazz, and Afropop. Albums such as "Wonder Woman" (2009), "Lasso of Truth" (2013), "Timeless" (2017), "In Her Feelings" (2019), and "Love Deep High Life" (2021) cemented her commercial and critical standing.
Beyond music, she has built a solid Nollywood résumé with roles in "Inale," "The Return of Jenifa," and "House of Gold," and co-produced "She Is" with Waje. Notably, she serves as a Nigerian Idol judge and remains a respected brand ambassador for Globacom, Konga, and Malta Guinness.
