Niles Hollowell-Dhar is an American musician, DJ, songwriter, and record producer behind the alias KSHMR. KSHMR, born in Berkeley, California, to an Indian Kashmiri father and an American mother, widely recognized for blending electronic dance music with Indian musical traditions. Working across electro house, progressive house, future house, future bounce, big room house, trap, and world-electronic styles, he has built a distinctive sound rooted in cinematic production, orchestral arrangements, and South Asian melodic influences. Hollowell-Dhar first gained major industry recognition as one half of the hip-hop and pop production duo The Cataracs. During that period, he co-created the international hit “Like a G6,” a breakthrough that established him as a successful songwriter and producer before he transitioned into electronic music. He launched the KSHMR project in 2014 and quickly rose through the global EDM scene with tracks such as “Megalodon,” “Burn,” “Secrets,” “Jammu,” “Bazaar,” and “Karra.” His collaborations have included Tiësto, Hardwell, R3hab, Timmy Trumpet, W&W, Headhunterz, and Vini Vici, while his work with KR$NA, Raftaar, Munawar Faruqui, Rajakumari, and Talay Riley highlights his strong connection to contemporary Indian and South Asian music. His releases have appeared through labels including Spinnin’ Records, Dharma Worldwide, Mass Appeal India, and Godmother Records. In 2016, DJ Mag honored him with the Best Live Act award, recognizing the scale and creativity of his festival performances. He has also consistently appeared in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs rankings. A major artistic milestone arrived with the 2021 album Harmonica Andromeda, which expanded his cinematic and cross-cultural approach. In 2023, he released KARAM, an Indian hip-hop album that reached number one on India’s Rap & Hip Hop chart and earned significant critical attention, including a Rolling Stone India cover feature. Beyond recording and touring, KSHMR is the founder of the label Dharma Worldwide, a platform supporting emerging electronic artists. Through his music, live performances, production resources, and cultural collaborations, he remains one of the most influential figures connecting global EDM with Indian musical identity.
