Journey

Thabo Ngubane, professionally known as Mas Musiq, is a premier South African record producer, DJ, and major architect of the Amapiano sound. Born on August 14, 1997, in Tembisa, Gauteng, he developed a passion for audio production early on. Unlike many self-taught producers in the genre, he pursued formal studies at the Academy of Sound Engineering in Johannesburg, equipping him with refined technical mixing skills that define his clean, atmospheric production style.Mas Musiq's career trajectory changed dramatically in 2019 when industry titan DJ Maphorisa recognized his potential and signed him to the Blaq Boy Music imprint. He made an immediate impact, co-producing the monumental Amapiano anthem "eMcimbini" alongside Maphorisa and Kabza De Small. His debut release, Mambisa EP, introduced his talent to a broader audience and featured the track "Zaka," a collaboration born after he discovered singer Aymos online. This partnership led to their acclaimed joint EP Shonamalanga (2020), which earned multiple South African Music Award (SAMA) nominations. Over the years, Mas Musiq has solidified his position as an industry leader through solo and collaborative studio projects, including Auti 'eSharp (2021), NINI na NINI (2023), Lane Yam (2024), and Uju (2026). Celebrated for incorporating emotive jazz harmonies, rich organ lines, and smooth log drums, he remains one of South Africa's most consistent hitmakers, defining the soulful side of modern African electronic music.
