Soa Mattrix, born Mandla Mashakeni in Soweto, South Africa, is a celebrated producer, singer, and songwriter whose music blends amapiano, Afro-house, R&B, and soulful melodies. Though raised in urban Soweto, his Tsonga heritage traces back to Limpopo, where his parents originated before relocating to Gauteng. Exposed to music from a young age, he was inspired by his father’s guitar playing, which helped shape his early understanding of melody and rhythm.
Soa Mattrix began exploring music at age ten, experimenting with hip-hop, gqom, and Afro-house before refining his signature sound. His breakthrough came in 2020 with the single "Uthando," featuring Soulful G and Shaun 101, which achieved double platinum status in South Africa. In 2021, he released his debut solo album, "Sounds of Africa," and a collaborative album, "Tintswalo," with DJ Maphorisa, earning Gold certification from RiSA. Tracks such as "Mina Nawe" and "Athandwe" further cemented his growing reputation.
In 2024, he released "Akani," named after his son, combining commercial success with a platform to spotlight emerging talent. By July 2025, he reached 100,000 YouTube subscribers, earning the Silver Creator Award. Notably, Soa Mattrix has received multiple SA Amapiano Music Awards nominations, including Song of the Year and Best Music Producer.
Beyond music, he is a devoted father and maintains a deep connection to his Tsonga roots, which inform his artistry. He has also ventured into photography and filmmaking and founded Sounds of Africa (SOA) Music, a record label and multimedia company dedicated to mentoring and promoting new talent, reflecting his commitment to nurturing the next generation of creatives.
