Thabo Ngubane, professionally known as Mas Musiq, was born on 14 August 1997 in Tembisa, Gauteng, South Africa. He developed an early interest in music and later attended the Academy of Sound Engineering, where he learned production and engineering skills that shaped his approach as a producer, DJ and songwriter.
He rose within Johannesburg’s amapiano scene and gained wider attention after DJ Maphorisa linked him to the Blaq Boy Music and New Money Gang collective in 2019. That connection led to collaborations with leading artists and producers. Mas Musiq’s style blends melodic piano motifs with the log-drum rhythms that define modern amapiano, and he is known for crafting tracks that pair melodic arrangements with strong vocal features.
Mas Musiq’s recorded work includes the albums "Mambisa" (2019), "Mambisa II" (2020), "Aut' eSharp" (2021), "Nini na Nini" (2023), and "Lane Yam" (2024), as well as the "Shonamalanga" EP with Aymos in 2020. Singles such as "Sengizwile" and "Uzozisola" became major hits; Uzozisola earned multiple certifications while Sengizwile reached the top of South African charts. His 2023 album "Nini na Nini" was certified Gold by RiSA, highlighting commercial recognition for his production and songwriting.
