AratheJay, born Samuel Ofei Ankrah Badu in Sekondi-Takoradi, Ghana, is a singer and songwriter operating at the intersection of Highlife, Afrobeats, Afropop, and Hip-hop. His upbringing was far from rooted in a single place, He spent part of his childhood in Kenya, where he learned Swahili and was exposed to East African music alongside Jamaican dancehall and reggae. These experiences broadened his musical perspective before he returned to Ghana and settled in Tema. He later studied Music and Audio Production, equipping himself with technical and creative skills for his career.
AratheJay initially experimented with rap and jazz before developing his signature sound, which combines highlife, Afrobeats, Afropop, hip-hop, and spiritually inspired songwriting. His early singles introduced his artistic identity, but wider recognition came with "Sankofa," whose remix featured King Promise. AratheJay launched his recording career in 2025 under Mass Appeal and Almighty Records, quickly assembling a catalog that reflects both his range and his intent. His releases; "The Odyssey," "Put Am on God," "Alhaji Popping," "Fire," and "Peace," move between the organic textures of Highlife and the modern propulsion of Afrobeats and Hip-hop, holding that tension with a consistency that belies how early he is in his career.
The collaborators he has worked with read like a cross-section of contemporary African music's strongest voices, including Black Sherif, Stonebwoy, Bella Shmurda, King Promise, Beeztrap Kotm, O'Kenneth, Kweku Smoke, Savara, and Joshua Baraka. These partnerships span Ghana, Nigeria, and East Africa, mirroring the geographic range that shaped him personally and reinforcing the pan-African character of his music. Industry recognition followed quickly. At the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards, AratheJay won Best Music Video for Put Am on God, a honor that confirmed what his growing audience already sensed, that his vision extends to the full creative package, not only the sound but the visual language around it.
With a foundation built across two continents and a catalog that continues to grow, AratheJay enters the next phase of his career as one of the more deliberately crafted artists to emerge from the current wave of Ghanaian music.
