Jason Terrance Phillips, known professionally as Jadakiss, is an American rapper, songwriter, entrepreneur, and one of the defining voices of East Coast hip-hop. Born in Yonkers, New York, he first emerged through local rap battles and mixtape culture before forming The Warlocks with childhood friends Styles P and Sheek Louch. The group later became The LOX and gained national attention after being introduced to Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs by Mary J. Blige. Their platinum-certified debut album Money, Power & Respect established them as a major force in hardcore hip-hop.
Jadakiss launched his solo career with Kiss tha Game Goodbye, followed by Kiss of Death, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and included the acclaimed single “Why” featuring Anthony Hamilton. He later released The Last Kiss, Top 5 Dead or Alive, and Ignatius, continuing a catalog known for dense lyricism, street storytelling, and his unmistakably gravelly voice.
Recognized immediately by that rugged vocal tone, Jadakiss built a reputation for sharp, unflinching lyricism that resonated across generations of hip-hop listeners.
