Journey

Andereya Baguma, born Andrew Baguma Kasagga in Kampala, Uganda, is a notable figure in the East African music scene, effectively weaving his rich cultural heritage into his musical endeavors. Growing up in a musically inclined family, Andereya was introduced to both the guitar and traditional Ugandan instruments by his father. This early foundation was complemented by formal musical education at Makerere University, where Andereya earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music. His innovative style, Nze Music, stands out for its authenticity and emotional depth, drawing from genres like soul, mbalax, and mbira. His breakout track "Mbasabira" won second place in the International Songwriting Competition’s World Music category, marking a significant achievement in his career. Locally, he earned the Penda Uganda Song Contest awards. Andereya's debut album, "Andereya," launched at the Uganda National Cultural Centre, pays homage to Uganda's vibrant musical traditions. He has delighted audiences at significant festivals such as Pearl Rhythm and Jamafest and is known internationally through projects like the EP "Conversations" with American singer Kate Bass, supported by the U.S. Embassy. As the founder of Nze Music, Andereya is committed to artist development and promoting African soundscapes. He organizes cultural events like Endongo Munsiko and Embozzi Z’ekyoto, where music, storytelling, and community engagement converge in celebration of Ugandan traditions.
