Journey
Gino Sitson, born in Cameroon, has carved a singular niche in the global music scene with his extraordinary four-octave voice and innovative fusions of jazz, gospel, blues, and African polyphonies. Raised in a musically rich family from the Bamileke region, he carries the cultural essence of the Ntontas lineage, known for their mastery in horn playing, while integrating modern influences. His impressive educational background includes a PhD in Musicology from Paris-Sorbonne University, with a focus on music cognition and African diasporic traditions. Sitson founded the Polyvocal Research Laboratory, emphasizing vocal improvisation through global rhythmic lenses. His albums, notably 'Vocal Deliria', 'Bamisphere', 'Echo Chamber', and 'VoiStrings', persistently break the borders of oral tradition and jazz, reinforcing his position as a luminary in contemporary vocal innovation. Collaborations with Manu Dibango, Bobby McFerrin, and others highlight his versatile artistry. A 2002 accolade from the Los Angeles Times for 'Vocadelic Tales' further established his influence, while his role as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador reflects his commitment to social empowerment through music. Based in New York, Sitson continues to create and educate, forever bridging the vibrant sonic worlds of traditional African music and modern musical expression.
