Ommy Dimpoz, born Omary Faraji Nyembo on September 12, 1987, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, is one of East Africa’s most celebrated Bongo Flava and Afro-pop singers. Raised in a modest home with a deep appreciation for music, Ommy discovered his passion for singing at a young age. He performed at school events, church functions, and local talent shows, where his smooth vocals and confidence caught public attention. While studying at Makongo Secondary School, he began writing songs and shaping his musical identity.
His professional journey took off after collaborations with established Tanzanian artists, especially Alikiba, on the hit single “Nai Nai.” The success of that track introduced Ommy as a new force in Tanzanian music. Over the years, he became known for his emotional lyrics, polished vocals, and versatility in genres ranging from Bongo Flava and Afropop to gqom-infused dance hits.
In 2020, Ommy signed with Sony Music Entertainment Africa under Rockstar Africa, marking a milestone in his career. He released notable singles including “Dede” (featuring DJ Tira, Dladla Mshunqisi, and Prince Bulo), “Nishikilie”, and “Nitakupa” featuring Jay Melody. These songs strengthened his regional and continental presence.
Ommy Dimpoz has received several Tanzania Music Awards nominations and continues to influence the East African music scene with his charisma and innovation. Beyond music, he is admired for his perseverance and positive outlook, especially after overcoming serious health challenges. Active and evolving, Ommy remains a powerful ambassador of Tanzanian culture and modern African sound.
