Fanuel Phabian Peter, better known as Vanillah, embodies the spirit of Tanzanian Bongo Flava and Afro-pop. Born on February 19, 1996, in Mwanza, his musical roots trace back to early influences in school music classes that paved the way for formal training. Initially making waves behind the scenes, Vanillah co-wrote hits for Tanzanian stars like Alikiba and AbduKiba. In 2019, Vanillah gained national attention after winning the Super Nyota competition, marking the beginning of his transition to the spotlight. His career gained momentum under the mentorship of Mr Eazi's Empawa initiative, which refined his blend of Bongo Flava, Afro-pop, and R&B. In 2022, Vanillah's EP ‘Listen to Me (Nisikulize)’ introduced the iconic ‘Unanisitiri,’ followed by acclaimed tracks like ‘I Gat U’ and ‘Hakunaga.’ Collaborating with artists such as Anjella, he has built a portfolio that delves into personal themes while engaging a global audience. Awarded a National Laureate by the African Music Academy Awards in 2024, Vanillah continues to craft music rich in authenticity—rooted in Tanzanian tradition yet resonating across the globe.
