John Kasadha, better known as John Blaq, is a Ugandan recording artist, songwriter, and performer working across dancehall, Afrobeat, reggae, ragga, and hip-hop. Raised in Bweyogerere, a suburb of Kampala, he spent much of his childhood with his aunt after his parents encountered financial difficulties. These early experiences influenced his songwriting, which often reflects determination, personal growth, and everyday realities. While attending Bweyogerere Secondary School, he gained recognition in school rap competitions, where he refined the commanding vocal style that later became central to his identity as a performer.
He entered the recording industry in 2018 with "Romantic," before achieving national recognition through "Tukwatagane." The single established him as one of Uganda's emerging dancehall artists and introduced the signature expression "Aya Basi," which became closely associated with his recordings. Later that year, his collaboration with Vinka on "Sweet Love" expanded his audience and ranked among Uganda's most successful releases of 2018, strengthening his position within the country's mainstream music industry.
John Blaq has since built a catalogue that includes "Do Dat," "Obubadi," "African Boy," "Ngamba," "Commander," "Style," "Namala," "Wanna Love You," "Katalina," "Silina," and "Angela." His body of work incorporates contemporary Ugandan dancehall with Afrobeat, reggae, and rap influences, distinguished by a deep bass vocal tone. He has collaborated with artists including Vinka, Sheebah Karungi, Daddy Andre, Grenade Official, Prince Omar, David Lutalo, and Irene Namubiru, reflecting his active role within East Africa's contemporary music community.
In addition to his recording career, John Blaq has secured commercial partnerships and industry recognition. He signed a promotional agreement with Pepsi Uganda in 2019 and headlined the 'Aya Basi Concert' at Freedom City, Kampala, his first major solo concert. His achievements include multiple Zzina Awards, recognizing his success in the dancehall category and his emergence as one of Uganda's leading artists. He continues to release new music, perform across the region, and maintain a catalogue available on major digital streaming platforms, reinforcing his continued contribution to Ugandan popular music.
Off the stage, John Blaq has directed part of his public presence toward social advocacy, actively speaking out against teenage pregnancy. This commitment to community engagement positions him as an artist whose reach extends beyond music into the lives of younger audiences in Uganda.
