Themba Sekowe, professionally known as DJ Maphorisa or Madumane, is a trailblazing South African DJ, record producer, and vocalist whose sonic fingerprint has reshaped the continent’s musical landscape. Born in Soshanguve, Pretoria, Maphorisa’s journey began in the vibrant local music scene, where he honed his craft and developed a genre-bending style that fuses house, Amapiano, Afropop, and Kwaito into irresistible rhythms.
A former member of the acclaimed group Uhuru, Maphorisa first rose to prominence producing hits like “Y-Tjukutja” and “Khona,” which catapulted him onto the international stage. His production credits read like a global playlist, featuring collaborations with icons such as Wizkid, Drake, Major Lazer, Black Coffee, and Kabza De Small. He co-produced Drake’s chart-topping “One Dance,” a milestone that cemented his status as a global hitmaker.
Maphorisa’s accolades include multiple nominations and wins at the Mzansi Viewers' Choice Awards, Soundcity MVP Awards, and Kwaito and House Music Awards.
