Earlan Bartley, professionally known as Alkaline, is a Jamaican dancehall and reggae artist born in 1993 in Kingston, Jamaica. Raised in Kingston, he developed an interest in music during his school years and began writing songs as a teenager. Influenced by dancehall sound-system culture, reggae, and contemporary hip-hop, he crafted a vocal style marked by sharp delivery, melodic phrasing, and a confident lyrical approach. His carefully guarded public image and distinctive stage presence quickly made him one of the most discussed new voices in Jamaican music.
Alkaline emerged professionally in the early 2010s and gained significant attention in 2013 through a series of independently released singles that circulated widely in Jamaica. Songs such as "High Props," "Nah Fi Like," "Gladdest Night," "Depend Pan Nobody," and "Fulla Vibes" helped establish his name among dancehall audiences and demonstrated his ability to connect with younger listeners while remaining rooted in Jamaican musical traditions. During this period, he worked with producers and labels including Studio Vibes Entertainment, Cahban Rekords, Sounique Records, Armzhouse Records, Black Shadow Records, and Fresh Ear Productions, reflecting the collaborative and producer-driven nature of the dancehall industry.
His commercial breakthrough continued with hit singles such as "Champion Boy," "Formula," "After All," and "ATM," which expanded his reach across the Caribbean and into international markets. In 2016, he released his debut studio album "New Level Unlocked," a major milestone that entered the Billboard Reggae Albums chart and confirmed his growing global profile. That same year, he received a MOBO Award nomination for Best Reggae Act, bringing additional international recognition to his work.
Alkaline has collaborated with prominent Jamaican artists including Sean Paul and Spice, as well as producers associated with Black Shadow Records, strengthening his presence within the wider dancehall community. He later followed his debut with the successful album "Top Prize" in 2021, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. Alkaline is regarded as one of the leading figures in contemporary dancehall. His catalogue reflects sustained artistic growth, commercial success, and a clear creative identity that continues to influence a new generation of Jamaican artists while keeping dancehall visible on the international stage.
