Nina Simone opens this one. "And now we got a revolution, 'cause I see the face of things to come."
Sit in that line, because it's doing more work than you think.
Simone isn't just talking about change. She's talking about seeing. She's talking about the ability to look at the present and recognize what's being built before it's finished — before the storm, before the fire, before everybody else is forced to admit what's happening.
That's the difference between reacting to history and reading it.
Most people don't see a revolution coming until it's already here. They see a court decision. A redistricting map. A textbook. A curriculum. A billionaire constructing an institution. A forty-year legal strategy quietly doing what it was always designed to do.
None of it announces itself. None of it waves a flag. It just accumulates.
And by the time you recognize it, you're already living inside it.
So the question this week isn't whether America is changing. America is always changing.
The question is whether you're paying close enough attention to understand what it's changing into.
Because here's what the people running this country understood a long time ago: winning an election is temporary. Controlling institutions is how you make the win permanent.
