Journey
Born in Shaoyang, Hunan, and raised in Guiyang, Guizhou, Zhou Shen, also known as Charlie Zhou, has carved out a unique place in contemporary Chinese music. A classically trained vocalist who studied bel canto at Ukraine’s Lviv National Music Academy, the singer and producer effortlessly blends classical precision with modern genres—ranging from Mandarin pop and electronic beats to sweeping film soundtracks and animation themes.
Zhou Shen entered the professional music industry in 2014 after competing on the third season of 'The Voice of China' as a member of Na Ying's team. His performances established his distinctive vocal identity and earned him the program's annual song recognition for “Lake Baikal.” In 2015, he released his first original solo single, “Rose and Deer,” which earned the Best Newcomer award at the Oriental Billboard Awards.
His career reached a major turning point in 2016 with “Big Fish,” the impression song for the animated film "Big Fish & Begonia." Written by Yin Yue and composed and arranged by Qian Lei, the recording became one of Zhou Shen's signature works and received multiple industry honours.
In 2017, Zhou Shen released his debut studio album, "Deep Deep," a ten-track project produced through a three-year creative process involving composers and lyricists including Qian Lei, Yin Yue, and Gao Xiaosong. The album combined pop songwriting with Chinese musical elements and bel canto techniques, establishing a broader foundation for his subsequent repertoire.
Zhou Shen expanded his profile through soundtrack recordings, television performances, and large-scale live projects. In 2019, he won "Our Song" and launched the C-929 Planet national concert tour. His repertoire has since included songs such as “Light,” “China in the Lantern,” “Flower Bloom and Forget Worries,” “My Answer,” “Little Happiness,” and “Borrowing a Moment.”
His catalogue now includes two studio albums, "Deep Deep" and "Shenself," alongside numerous standalone recordings and soundtrack contributions. His honours include Best Male Singer awards at major Chinese music ceremonies, Tencent Music Entertainment awards, and recognition for songs receiving Five-One Project honours. Zhou Shen's career reflects the continued expansion of a classically trained vocalist into one of China's prominent recording and live-performance artists.
