Journey
Yaa Yaa, known offstage as Bertha Bridget Kankam, is an influential figure in the Ghanaian music scene, celebrated for her genre-blending artistry and emotive vocal performances. Born into a musically rich environment in Kumasi, Ghana, Yaa Yaa began her ascent in music when she won the 'Stars of the Future' competition in 2009. Her victory not only launched her career but also earned her a role as an MTN Ambassador, consolidating her presence in the industry. With influences spanning Anita Baker, Brandy, and Whitney Houston, her debut album 'Agoo', launched live in 2020, is a tapestry of bongoflava, kizomba, soul, and highlife — reflecting both her Ghanaian roots and Western influences. Yaa Yaa is known for her insightful lyrics, often powered by personal stories, and her dynamic use of English and Twi in her songwriting. As an independent artist, she continues to innovate through her label, Pyramid Entertainment, proving her prowess in both creating captivating music and navigating the complexities of the music business.
