Journey
Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy, professionally known as XXXTENTACION, was born on January 1998, in Plantation, Florida, and spent most of his childhood in Lauderhill, Florida. Raised in a challenging environment, he discovered music at an early age, singing in church and school choirs before teaching himself to play guitar and piano. His teenage years were marked by personal struggles, but they also shaped a fearless creative voice that would later redefine modern hip-hop. Drawing inspiration from rap, rock, punk, metal, R&B, and alternative music, he developed a style that prioritized emotional honesty over convention.
XXXTENTACION began releasing music independently through SoundCloud in 2013, quickly gaining a devoted online following with songs that stood apart for their intensity and vulnerability. His breakout single, "Look at Me!", became a viral phenomenon in 2017, propelling him into the mainstream and establishing him as one of the defining figures of the SoundCloud rap movement. That same year, he released his debut studio album, 17, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and featured acclaimed tracks including "Jocelyn Flores," "Fuck Love," and "Everybody Dies in Their Nightmares."
Building on that success, XXXTENTACION released his second studio album, ? (Question Mark), in 2018. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and included some of his most recognizable songs, including "SAD!," "Moonlight," "Changes," and "Hope." Following his passing, his estate released “Skins,” (2018) and “Bad Vibes,” “Forever,” (2019), preserving previously recorded material and further expanding his catalog. Throughout his career, he worked under Black Bag Inc and collaborated with artists including Ski Mask the Slump God, Momoh, Black Bag LA, Trippie Redd, PnB Rock, Lil Pump, Joey Bada$$, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne.
A gifted songwriter, rapper, singer, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist, XXXTENTACION incorporated guitar and piano into his creative process, allowing him to move naturally between emo rap, trap, lo-fi, indie rock, punk rock, nu metal, hip-hop, and R&B. His willingness to explore emotional vulnerability helped establish emo rap as a global movement and influenced countless artists who followed.
His achievements include multiple Billboard Hot 100 hits, several No. 1 albums, billions of streams worldwide, numerous multi-Platinum and Diamond certifications from the RIAA, and the American Music Award for Favorite Soul/R&B Album for 17. Although his life was tragically cut short on June 18, 2018, at the age of 20, XXXTENTACION's impact on contemporary music remains profound. His catalog continues to reach new audiences, and his fearless approach to songwriting and genre experimentation has secured his place as one of the most influential artists of his generation.
