Journey

Rev. Dr. Chimwemwe Mhango, a revered figure in both theological circles and the music world, was born in August 1967 in Bebula Village, Malawi. A multifaceted artist and leader, Mhango pursued music studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, later earning a Master's degree in Theology from the University of Jerusalem. This blend of musical and theological education deeply informs his artistry, characterized by a fusion of afrobeat, soul, marabi, and afrobeats that underscores his gospel music's spiritual themes. Ordained in 1994 within the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian's Livingstonia Synod, Mhango's journey through ministry saw a pivotal shift when he established the Redeemed Presbyterian Church (RPC) in 2015, responding to a calling for a new ecclesiastical direction. His significant milestone was consecration as RPC's first bishop in 2019, marking a new era for the denomination. Outside his ecclesiastical duties, Mhango is a vibrant presence in Malawi's music scene, known for songs that are both inspiring and deeply rooted in his cultural heritage. He also served as Chairperson of the Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA), advocating for artists' rights and contributing to the cultural landscape. Mhango continues to inspire through powerful gospel music and transformative leadership.
