Journey
Nyanyo Daniel Addo, hailing from the Ga community in Labadi, Greater Accra, Ghana, stands as a distinguished master percussionist deeply rooted in traditional drumming. Under the tutelage of his grandfather, a respected Won priest, Addo began an early immersion into drumming as a medium for storytelling, healing, and spiritual expression. His mastery of instruments such as the Oblente, Atumpani, and Gome, among others, underscores his pivotal role as a cultural historian and spiritual guide within his community.
Addo's percussion journey has been marked by significant collaborations with pioneering artists like Fela Kuti and Mutabaruka, allowing him to share his Ghanaian rhythms on stages across Europe, including a noteworthy performance at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. His work with DJ Ted Bowes signals a creative leap into blending indigenous beats with electronic music, expanding his auditory canvas.
Through his albums 'He's In Trance Now' and 'The Tranceformer,' Addo continues to explore this intersection of world music with trance elements, producing tracks that celebrate his rich cultural heritage while engaging global audiences. Tracks like 'Wo Ba Wo Ba Shue' and 'Kpanlogo' are a testament to his innovative spirit and dedication to cultural fusion.
