Journey
Nigerian artist Keren-Happuch Odinenu, performing under the name Kenké, embodies the soul of Afro-soul through her storytelling and musical craftsmanship. Born in Anambra State and currently based in Abuja, Kenké balances her artistic flair with her entrepreneurial spirit, also engaging in poetry, dance, and motivational speaking. She returned to Nigeria after earning a master's degree in the United States, inspired to pursue music as a heartfelt vocation. Over a decade, Kenké’s transformative journey earned her early accolades, including the 2013 PEPSI Award for Outstanding Talent in Music and the 2016 Kola Award for Innovation, highlighting her impact on the genre.
Kenké's music, rich with emotion and honesty, gained international attention with the 2020 release of "Amarom," a poignant exploration of the fear of falling in love, sung partly in Igbo. This track resonated deeply with listeners, underpinning her ability to capture complex emotions in song. Her debut EP, "Ordinary Is Spectacular Enough," released in 2025, further cemented her presence in the Afro-soul scene, offering a thematic exploration of everyday beauty and vulnerability. In her creative process, Kenké prioritizes authenticity, starting with melodies and chords, letting them mature before layering with lyrics and reflection. Through her music, Kenké hopes to provide comfort and resonance to those who encounter her art.
