Journey
Fred Sebatta, known widely as Lord Fred Sebatta, stands as a pivotal figure in Ugandan Kadongo Kamu music. Born on October 17, 1950, his early exposure to music at school, where he led performances in music, dance, and drama, set the stage for a career in cultural storytelling through song. His breakthrough came in the early 1980s with "Sam Wange," a celebrated duet with Prossy Nabigumira. Garnering critical acclaim for his insightful lyrics and the melodic simplicity of Uganda's indigenous one-guitar style, Sebatta's opus includes roughly 20 albums and 100 songs, exploring love, societal norms, and moral themes. Forming the Matendo Band solidified his role as both an entertainer and educator. The 1990s saw Sebatta engaging in collaborations to uplift fellow artists, notably supporting the legendary Livingstone Kasozi. Despite the genre's fluctuating mainstream status, Lord Fred's passion for Kadongo Kamu remains undiminished. He is dedicated to nurturing Ugandan musical heritage, advocating for the genre's revival, and mentoring emerging artists, ensuring the torch of Kadongo Kamu continues to blaze brightly.
