In the wake of the 1879 Anglo-Zulu War, the British carved Zululand into thirteen chiefdoms, setting off a vicious succession struggle. This episode centers on Dinuzulu kaCetshwayo, the young prince who allied with Boer mercenaries to reclaim his father's throne, only to find himself caught between colonial machinations and Zulu traditionalists. We explore the 1883 Battle of Ulundi (the second one), the role of the Boer 'volunteers' under Louis Botha, the establishment of the New Republic (Nieuwe Republiek), and Dinuzulu's eventual exile to St. Helena.
