Mansa Musa is famous for his gold and his hajj, but his greatest achievement may have been diplomatic. In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore how the Mali emperor built a network of letters and ambassadors that connected West Africa to Cairo, Fez, and even Granada. They discuss Musa's correspondence with the Mamluk sultan al-Nasir Muhammad, the exchange of gifts and scholars, and the construction of a new embassy quarter in Timbuktu.
