Colorism is an issue that not only has the potential to impact the mental health of people of color, but in many cases there is potential for physical health to be impacted as well. It is an issue we see in current events, such as the language used towards darker-skinned public figures such as Michelle Obama and in film and television, where 80% of Black female characters have light or medium skin tones.
