Title: The Black Water Papers, Part Two: The Three Black Stones Oliver Hargreaves had spent years watching Ennerdale Water. By the end of Part One, he believed that something beneath the surface had started watching him in return. But Oliver went back. In the concluding part of the Black Water Papers, his investigation becomes increasingly personal. The three black ridges begin appearing wherever he chooses to stand. Something heavy enters the lake behind him after dark. Then, one morning, the creature moves into the shallows and Oliver finally sees what has been hiding beneath the water. His notebook ends soon afterwards. More than a century later, a modern photograph appears to show three familiar shapes in the exact place marked by one of Oliver’s oldest accounts. This is the conclusion of an original fictional folklore investigation rooted in the real landscape and history of Ennerdale. Listening to Part One first is recommended.
