Show notes

On this episode of Off The Streetss—a new segment in collaboration with Noisy Streetss Advisory, a publishing house in Lagos, Nigeria—host Modupe sits down with Mubanga Kalimamukwento to discuss her novel, The Shipishika Club Mubanga reflects on the stories women carry and the weight of the silence so often demanded of them. Together, they explore patriarchy and the expectation that women endure oppression quietly, as well as the role of language as a marker of identity and why holding on to who you are matters. Through a story that gives voice to those who have long been told to stay quiet, Mubanga shares what it means to write characters who refuse to be erased, and how fiction can help us see, hear, and honor the women whose experiences too often go unspoken.
