Miguel “Miguelito” León is a multi-award-winning producer, multi-percussionist, vocalist, educator, and director of Rumba All-Stars: Los Fieles Amantes de La Rumba. Born in California and proudly Xicano, Miguelito didn’t just discover percussion, he practically inherited it. Raised on a vibrant mix of Latin, jazz, West African, Brazilian MPB, and Flamenco rhythms, he began performing professionally at age 10. By 17, Berklee College of Music offered him a scholarship. He turned it down, choosing Havana instead, a decision rooted in depth, not detours. By 20, he’d directed youth drum programs, landed endorsements from top percussion brands, and shuttled between Cuba and the U.S. for performances and workshops. Today, he tours globally with Emmy-winner Benise and leads Rumba All-Stars, the first folkloric group to win Cuba’s Cubadisco People’s Choice Award. Notably, he also runs CALI2CUBA and teaches Afro-Cuban traditions to women and children in Havana.
