Gnonnas Pedro, born Gnonnan Sossou Pierre Kouassivi, was a renowned singer, musician, and dancer from Lokossa, Benin. His musical journey spanned several decades, earning him acclaim both locally and internationally. Leading his own bands, such as Pedro y Sus Panchos and Gnonnas Pedro and his Dadjes Band, Pedro gained prominence in the 1960s. As a member of Orchestre Poly-rythmo de Cotonou, he contributed to its rich history. Pedro's talent extended to songwriting and instrumentals, as he modernized the Agbadja style, pioneering Modern Agbadja. Singing effortlessly in multiple languages, he captivated audiences worldwide. Despite his untimely passing from prostate cancer at 61, Pedro's musical legacy continues to inspire and celebrate his contributions to West African music.
