Zaza, born Zanele Mokhethi, is a South African gospel performer from Kwa-Thema in the East Rand. Her musical background began in church settings, where early participation in worship singing shaped her understanding of gospel performance and live presentation.
She started her professional journey as a backing vocalist, supporting artists such as Rebecca Malope and Solly Mahlangu. This period placed her within established gospel touring environments and large-scale live productions, where she gained experience in ensemble performance and stage discipline.
Her profile grew through appearances on Joyous Celebration, with the performance of “Namhla Nkosi” becoming a key moment in her public recognition. She later joined Spirit of Praise, contributing to widely circulated gospel recordings and live concert productions.
From ensemble work, she moved into a more independent direction, releasing live recordings under her own leadership. The DVD project “Blowing the Horn of Chronicles” marked an important step into self-directed production, where she took ownership of her creative output and presentation style.
