Journey
Born Zama Sithole in Frankfort, Free State, the artist who would become known as Zamajobe first captured South African audiences as a Top 10 finalist on "Pop Idols" in 2003. Though she did not win, her fusion of Afro-jazz, funk, and soul introduced a distinctive voice that resonated widely. In 2004, at the age of 19, she released her debut album "Ndawo Yami," which quickly achieved gold status and earned her the South African Music Award for Best Newcomer the following year.
After her initial success, Zamajobe released two more albums before taking a decade-long hiatus from the music scene to focus on personal growth and motherhood. She made a highly anticipated return in 2024, marking the 20th anniversary of her debut. Her comeback included the release of the album "Umi" and a special anniversary tour celebrating her career and longevity.
Zamajobe developed an interest in music from an early age, performing and honing her craft long before her television debut. Her single "Ndawo Yami" received national radio attention and helped establish her songwriting presence. Her catalogue includes songs such as "Magic," "Hey Hey Hey," and "Tonight," reflecting her commitment to creative expression and live performance.
Beyond recording, Zamajobe continues to shape the South African music landscape through songwriting, performances, and collaborations. Her career stands as a testament to her enduring artistry and dedication to evolving while staying true to her unique sound.
