Journey
Ayanda Oratile Yumb, or Yumbs as he's known, is a South African artist who has rapidly become central to the worldwide Amapiano movement. Raised in Kagiso, his musical foundation was built in the church as a drummer before he formalised his training at the National School of the Arts. By age 16, he was already performing professionally as a drummer for rapper Priddy Ugly, showcasing a precocious talent that would soon transition into elite-level music production.
Yumbs’ mainstream breakthrough arrived through his collaboration on Musa Keys' "Vula Mlomo" in 2021. Since then, he has established himself as a "super producer," contributing to multi-platinum projects for industry heavyweights like Kelvin Momo, Major League DJz, and Pabi Cooper. His signature sound often fuses soulful, melodic elements with the rhythmic "log drum" characteristic of Amapiano, a style that has attracted international attention. This global appeal led to high-profile remixes for American stars like Muni Long ("Made For Me") and Ciara ("How We Roll").
In 2024, Yumbs solidified his career trajectory by signing an exclusive deal with Warner Music Africa, aimed at expanding his influence beyond the continent. One of his most personal works, the 2025 EP "Imbewu" (meaning "The Seed"), represents a reflective "new chapter" in his journey, featuring the viral hit "You Try" with Simmy. Beyond the studio, he is a sought-after international DJ, performing at major festivals such as Afronation Portugal and events like the Cannes Film Festival. Today, Yumbs stands as both a prolific collaborator and a leading solo artist, continuously pushing the boundaries of South African dance music on the world stage.
