WurlD is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and producer born as Sadiq Onifade on 2 January 1987 in Lagos, Nigeria. He spent his early years in Lagos before relocating to the United States as a teenager. While studying computer science at Georgia State University, he discovered a strong passion for music and performance, which eventually shaped his career path.
Determined to build a career in music, WurlD began writing songs and experimenting with different sounds. In 2012, he released his debut single, “Beyond Our Dreams,” followed by the EP Evolution in 2013.
His music combines elements of Afrobeats, soul, R&B, pop, and electronic influences, creating a style he often describes as electro-fusion or Afrosoul.
His breakthrough came through songs such as “Show You Off,” “Paranoid,” “Trobul,” and “Wishes and Butterflies.” In addition to his solo success, WurlD earned praise as a songwriter and collaborated with artists including Sarz, Davido, and Walshy Fire. He also co-wrote Davido and Chris Brown’s hit single “Blow My Mind.”
Recognized for his expressive vocals and innovative sound, WurlD has built a reputation as one of the leading figures in modern African music, earning fans across Africa, Europe, and North America.
