Wendy Mseleku emerged from a musically connected family in Lamontville, Durban, where performance and sound were part of her upbringing. With jazz pianist Bheki Mseleku as her uncle and Langa Mseleku as her father, she grew up in an environment already shaped by professional music. This background also influenced her younger sister Linda Mseleku, who later followed a similar path.
Her early development included stage exposure through Mbongeni Ngema’s production world, including links to Sarafina! (1992), which helped shape her confidence as a performer before her recording career fully began. She later became part of Family Factory, a group known for vocal-driven performance work, and also performed within Joyous Celebration, contributing to live gospel recordings and ensemble-based worship performances.
Her recording career was launched with support from Shaluza Max, resulting in her debut album "Umgenandlini," where her vocal style gained public attention. She followed this with All in One, which featured a cover of Brenda Fassie’s “Life is Going On,” a track that received notable airplay and strengthened her presence in mainstream music spaces.
Beyond her own releases, she worked across different performance settings, including collaborations and backing work with Angelique Kidjo, Billy Ocean, Bob Mabena, and Doctor Khumalo, moving fluidly between gospel, R&B, and pop-influenced music environments.
Her career was cut short in 2000 after severe health complications following childbirth, leading to her passing at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. She is remembered as a rising voice whose work spanned gospel collectives, live performance groups, and early solo recordings, with her potential left unrealised due to her early passing.
