Journey
Vinka, born Veronica Nakiyingi Luggya on June 27, 1994, in Kampala, Uganda, grew up between Kazo and Bweyogerere. From a young age, she displayed a passion for performance, honing her skills through dance competitions and school shows. She attended Hormisdalen Primary School and Rubaga Girls’ School, later earning a bachelor’s degree in Tourism and Hospitality from Makerere University in 2017.
Her career began as a professional dancer, performing with top Ugandan artists such as Maurice Kirya, Cindy Sanyu, and Jackie Chandiru. She then moved into artist management at Swangz Avenue, supporting careers of acts like Irene Ntale and Winnie Nwagi. This experience laid the foundation for her transition to music.
In 2017, Vinka debuted as a recording artist with the single “Level”, followed by “Stylo” featuring Irene Ntale. She went on to release hits including “Malaika”, “Chips Na Ketchup”, “Love Panic”, “By the Way”, “Fimbo”, “One Bite”, and “Bailando”, blending Afro-pop, dancehall, and Afrobeat with infectious rhythms and catchy melodies. Her international profile grew in 2019 through a collaboration with Romanian artist Inna on the single “Bebe”, supported by a distribution partnership with Sony Music Entertainment.
Vinka’s music has earned significant recognition. She won Best Female Artist at the Zzina Awards 2024, while her singles “Thank God” and “Bailando” were nominated for Best Inspirational Song and Song of the Year, respectively. These accolades highlight her influence and rising dominance in the Ugandan and East African music scene.
Known for electrifying stage performances that combine choreography with audience engagement, Vinka has toured extensively across Uganda and East Africa, earning praise for her dynamic presence. On a personal level, she welcomed her daughter in January 2021 with partner Witta Nelson, balancing motherhood with a thriving career.
Through her journey from dancer and manager to award-winning musician, Vinka has become a leading figure in modern East African music, consistently fusing Afrobeat, dancehall, and pop into vibrant, chart-topping hits while maintaining her signature energy, charisma, and appeal.
