Venom, born Nkosi Mmembe, is a South African DJ, producer, radio host, and entrepreneur whose sound spans hip hop, Amapiano, Afro-pop, and R&B. Born in Zambia and raised in Pretoria, his interest in music began at Zanzu nightclub through a cousin who was a resident DJ, with early influences including Michael Jackson and South African figures such as DJ Fresh, Black Coffee, and Euphonik. He adopted the stage name Venom in tribute to his mentor, DJ Poison. Venom first built his reputation in Pretoria’s club scene through residencies at Blueroom Hatfield and the #WezzleWednesdays platform, later performing at major festivals including Ultra SA, OppiKoppi, Durban July, and Major League Gardens. His career gained national prominence through a creative partnership with Shishiliza, leading to the multi-platinum single “Sondela” featuring Blxckie, the late Riky Rick, Tshego, Raspy, and Yumbs, and their debut album "Love Is Pain" released in 2022. The duo signed with Sony Music Africa, were recognised with the "Africa Rising recipients" in 2022, and earned a Duo or Group of the Year nomination at the 29th South African Music Awards. Known for large-scale collaborations across genres, Venom continues releasing new music and touring actively, with recent work including the 2026 single “Khumbula” featuring Nobantu Vilakazi.
