Vasco Rossi grew up in Zocca, a small town in the Modena province of northern Italy, where he spent his childhood in a modest working-class household. Performing under the name Vasco and widely known by fans as “Il Blasco,” his mother, Novella Corsi encouraged him, to pursue music and performance, while his father, Carlo Rossi, worked as a truck driver. Although he studied accounting in Bologna, his interests gradually shifted toward broadcasting, songwriting, and live entertainment.
During the 1970s he helped establish Punto Radio, an independent local radio station that became an important creative outlet for his early ideas. His debut album, “Ma cosa vuoi che sia una canzone,” appeared in 1978, and the follow-up releases “Non siamo mica gli americani!” and “Colpa d’Alfredo” brought him national attention. Through albums such as “Siamo solo noi,” “Bollicine,” “C’è chi dice no,” “Liberi liberi,” and “Gli spari sopra,” he became a central figure in modern Italian rock.
Rossi’s work combines songwriting, poetry, and performance. He has released more than thirty albums and written over 250 songs, including “Albachiara,” “Vita spericolata,” “Sally,” “Rewind,” and “Un senso.” In addition to recording his own music, he has written lyrics for other Italian artists.
His career has produced numerous platinum albums, major chart successes, and historic concert audiences. The Modena Park performance in 2017 attracted more than 220,000 ticketed spectators, one of the largest paid concert crowds ever assembled for a single artist.
He has worked with musicians and songwriters such as Gaetano Curreri, Claudio Guidetti, and members of Stadio. Recent projects, including “Cosa Succede in Città,” along with ongoing touring, recording, and documentary work, which demonstrate his continued importance within Italian music and popular culture.
