Journey
Alec Rorisang Kobeng, known professionally as Tycoon, was born on October 18, 2003, in Diepkloof, Soweto, Gauteng. Growing up in the township’s lively music environment, he developed a love for beats and rhythms early, experimenting with DJing in high school before fully immersing himself in production. By 2018, Tycoon had embraced Amapiano, blending deep-house grooves with Afrocentric melodies that quickly set him apart in the local music landscape.
His early breakthrough came with the track “After Tears,” featuring Sizwe Alakine, DJ Stokie, and Boohle, earning him his first gold certification. Tycoon has steadily grown his catalog with projects like the Khoto Series, the 2023 EP Art of Love, the 2024 single “Hlala Nam,” and the full-length Tyza Wav Vol. II in 2025, which highlighted his signature log-drum patterns and layered, atmospheric grooves.
Collaborations have been central to his career. He has worked with Sizwe Alakine, DJ Stokie, Boohle, Sir Trill, Raspy, Kabza De Small, Soulful Disciple, Nanette, Mashudu, and Mzizi, among others, contributing both production and featured performances.
Tycoon has received industry recognition through the Basadi in Music Awards and a SAMA nomination, while his streaming success and social media presence reflect a growing audience locally and internationally. Focused and disciplined, he continues to build his profile as a rising Amapiano producer and DJ, keeping his personal life private and his attention on music and creative growth.
