Born Frederick Nathaniel Hibbert, Toots Hibbert, a groundbreaking Jamaican reggae vocalist and lyricist, was deeply immersed in various musical genres from an early age due to his family's musical background. His passion for singing and performing led to the formation of the band Toots and the Maytals in the early 1960s.
In 1968, Toots made history with the release of "Do the Reggay," one of the earliest tracks to introduce the term "reggae." With iconic hits like "Pressure Drop" and "54-46 That's My Number," Toots garnered acclaim within the music industry, culminating in a Grammy Award for the album "True Love." Toots Hibbert's enduring musical legacy continues to inspire generations, even after his passing in 2020 at the age of 77.
