Journey
Buang Mokoka, known as TheBuu (or Thebuu), is a fast-rising South African music producer and artist shaping a modern direction within Amapiano and Bacardi house. Born and raised in Ga-Rankuwa, north of Pretoria, his sound identity is closely tied to the “Rekere” culture of Tshwane, known for its high-energy, percussion-led style that forms the base of his production approach.
He started out as a self-taught producer, driven by the goal of refreshing the traditional Bacardi sound he grew up around. He later founded his imprint “Buu’d Up Productions,” giving him space to steer his creative output and develop his Rekere-influenced direction. His breakthrough came through collaborations with artists such as Mellow & Sleazy, Xduppy, and Scotts Maphuma, where his mix of Bacardi drum patterns and Amapiano log drum elements stood out.
In 2024 and 2025, he gained wider attention with releases like “Rekere Woza” featuring Mellow & Sleazy and his 2025 EP “Zone7.” Other tracks such as “Zekethe” and “Ma’Cash Cash” further highlight his production style and evolving sound direction.
