Born Tendai Michelle Dikinya, Crimson Blu is a Zimbabwean-born soul singer, songwriter, and poet who has established a significant presence in the Southern African music scene. Her journey began in Zimbabwe, where she joined the group The Establishment early on before pursuing a solo career that would eventually lead her to South Africa.
Her breakthrough occurred in 2013 when she entered the SABC 1 talent search competition, U Can Do It. Out of over 5,000 hopefuls, she emerged as one of the five winners, leading to the formation of the group The Maples and a project-based recording deal with Universal Music. This platform introduced her soulful, "riveting" vocal style to a mainstream audience.
In 2014, she joined Arthur Mafokate's renowned 999 Music stable. Initially hired as a songwriter, her talent quickly gained her a reputation within the label, leading to the recording and release of her debut self-titled album, Crimson Blu, in 2016. A fusion of international soul and R&B characterizes her music with African instruments and melodies, drawing inspiration from iconic figures like Sade, Bob Marley, and Amy Winehouse.
Beyond her solo work, Crimson Blu is a prolific collaborator. She gained critical acclaim for her vocals on the hook of Tatea Da MC’s award-winning hip-hop track "H Town". Her discography also includes house hits like "Super Powers" and "Floating," the latter of which she performed on prominent South African television shows such as Club808 and eTV’s Sunrise.
