Born Thelumusa Samuel Owen in Durban, South Africa, Tellaman is a self-taught singer, songwriter, and producer who has become a prominent figure in the contemporary R&B and Hip-Hop landscape. His musical interest was sparked at the age of fifteen, influenced by a background where his mother encouraged him to sing in church and youth choirs. He began his career by creating beats and recording in his bedroom studio, eventually pursuing music professionally in 2008.
Tellaman's breakthrough came in 2014 when he was featured on the Soul Candi Sessions 15 compilation, notably for the single "Drinks and Music." He gained further mainstream recognition through his collaboration on DJ Speedsta’s hit track "Mayo" in 2016. Since then, he has released several successful projects, including the mixtape “Mind Vs Heart,” (2016), the EP “Lucid Dream,” (2018), and his acclaimed debut studio album “God Decides,” (2019). The latter featured the 5× Platinum hit "Whipped" with Shekhinah and Nasty C.
Known for his versatile "polymath" ability to produce, mix, and perform his own work, Tellaman has signed significant deals with Universal Music, Motown Records, and Def Jam Africa. In 2024, he released the project Watchlist and continued his international momentum with singles like "NAH 4REAL" and the cross-border collaboration "IDC" with Nigerian artist Remy Baggins.
