Journey
Tananas, formed in the 1980s, was a phenomenal South African musical trio comprising Steve Newman, Gito Baloi, and Ian Herman. Their fusion of jazz, rock, and African rhythms created a distinctive and culturally transcendent sound. Their journey began with the release of their debut album in 1988, followed by two major-label releases. However, their creative differences led to a temporary hiatus in 1992. During this break, Newman collaborated with Tony Cox, while Baloi embarked on a successful solo career. The trio reunited in the late '90s and achieved international recognition through the WOMAD tour. Sadly, their reunion ended in 2004 when Gito Baloi was shot after a performance, marking the end of Tananas' musical journey.
