Apostle Solomon Mahlangu stands as a towering figure in African gospel music, known for a ministry that transcends borders and languages. Born in 1971 in Johannesburg, he was raised by a single mother and began singing in church at the age of ten. Despite starting his recording career in the early 1990s, Mahlangu’s path to fame was defined by patience; he famously noted that it took him 27 years of faithfulness before he experienced a major commercial breakthrough.
That breakthrough arrived with the release of the live CD/DVD “Obrigado,” in 2009, followed by the record-breaking “Mwamba Mwamba,” in 2011. These projects introduced the world to his "African Praise" aesthetic a blend of high-tempo percussion, multilingual lyrics, and theatrical stagecraft. His song "Wahamba Nathi" (Siyabonga Jesu) became a global phenomenon, sung in churches from Lagos to London, and helped him sweep the SABC Crown Gospel Awards, including Best Gospel Song and Best Male Artist.
In addition to his musical success, Mahlangu is a respected spiritual leader. He founded the Word Praise Christian Centre International in Tembisa, where he serves as an Apostle alongside his wife. His ministry emphasizes the power of worship as a tool for spiritual breakthrough, a philosophy that is evident in his electrifying live performances.
