Journey
Born Ndixolele Mbali in the Eastern Cape, his journey later led him to Johannesburg, where things began to take shape in a more defined way. Early on, he found himself around established figures like Brenda Fassie and Moses Molelekwa, experiences that quietly influenced how he approached music.
A major turning point came when he met MXO, leading to the formation of Roots 2000. The duo performed at festivals such as Jazz Arts Festival and OppiKoppi, building a reputation through live sets and shared chemistry on stage.
After that period, he stepped out on his own. That solo chapter brought wider attention, especially with “Amantongomane,” which received consistent radio rotation and introduced him to a broader audience.
Years later, he and MXO came back together under Roots 2000, working on new material, including “Monday Blues,” showing that the connection never fully left.
Outside of collaboration, Sliq Angel has also focused on independence, setting up his own company to guide his work and direction on his own terms.
