Sjava is a South African singer, rapper, songwriter, and actor whose work sits at the intersection of African trap music, Afro-soul, R&B, and hip-hop. Born Jabulani Hadebe in Bergville, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, he grew up in a rural environment that strongly influenced his storytelling style and musical identity.
Before his music breakthrough, Sjava built a career in acting, appearing in South African television productions such as 'Zone 14,' 'uGugu no Andile,' and 'Isibaya,' establishing himself in the entertainment industry during the mid-2000s. His transition into music came later, shaped by a strong foundation in performance and narrative expression.
His musical career gained momentum in 2015 when he featured on Miss Pru’s hit single “Ameni,” a track that introduced him to mainstream audiences. He soon signed with Ambitiouz Entertainment and released his debut studio album "Isina Muva" in 2016. The project became a defining moment in South African music, blending traditional Zulu influences with modern trap and R&B textures, and establishing his “African Trap Music (ATM)” identity.
Sjava followed this success with "Umqhele" in 2018, an album that deepened his focus on identity, culture, love, and emotional storytelling. He later co-founded 1020 Cartel and released "Umsebenzi" in 2020, continuing his independent creative direction. His 2023 album "Isibuko" further expanded his reputation for introspective, narrative-driven songwriting rooted in lived experience.
