Shaun Tokollo Maseko, widely known by his stage name ShaunMusiq, is an influential South African music producer, DJ, and audio engineer hailing from Soshanguve, a township in Pretoria, Gauteng. Originally developing his passion for beatmaking through local hip-hop projects around 2018, his career trajectory pivoted as he immersed himself in the rich electronic and Bacardi music culture native to his hometown.
His definitive breakthrough occurred after forming a musical partnership with fellow Pretoria producer Ofentse Jason Mkhwebane, known as Ftears, in 2019. The pair established themselves as ShaunMusiq & Ftears, a duo recognized for bringing a raw, energetic edge to the broader Amapiano landscape. Combining hard-hitting percussion, infectious vocal loops, and aggressive log-drum patterns, their innovative production style earned them rapid recognition. The duo broke into nationwide prominence in 2022 following the massive success of their hit single "Ushaka" alongside Young Stunna and DJ Maphorisa.
They solidified their position as Amapiano powerhouses with additional chart-topping tracks including "Thata Ahh" and major collaborative works alongside heavyweights like Myztro, Daliwonga, Robot Boii, and Mellow & Sleazy.
Today, ShaunMusiq remains a pivotal contributor to contemporary South African dance music. By merging regional Bacardi bounce with mainstream Amapiano arrangements, he continues to work behind the mixing desk and perform live sets, establishing himself as an influential voice in the evolution of African electronic soundscapes.
